How do I complete a course?
To earn credit for a course, you must view 100% of the course. After participating in a live, video, audio, or text-based course, you’ll need to get a passing score of 70% on a multiple-choice examination. You’ll get immediate feedback regarding the results of your exam, and you’ll have the opportunity to repeat the exam once if necessary.
To earn credit for a live webinar, you must be logged in for the entire event and complete the exam within seven days; for a video, audio, or text-based course, you must view 100% of course content and complete the exam within 30 days of the course registration date. If you do not complete the exam within that time, you may re-register for the course.
You can access your CE exams by clicking on Dashboard or Pending Courses on the navigation sidebar. After passing the exam, you’ll be asked to complete a course evaluation, after which your certificate of completion will be available. Please note that you will not be allowed to complete more than 24 hours of coursework on any calendar day.

Course Approvals
Continued is approved by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) as an Approved Continuing Education Provider™, ACEP No. 7484, and is an Approved Education Provider by the National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC), Provider #283836. Continued is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. In addition, Continued Counseling is approved by many state regulatory boards to offer continuing education for counselors.
Not all courses offer equivalent credits, and it is incumbent on you as the licensee to understand the continuing education regulations for your license. When you select your state from the state drop-down menu in the course library, the text box at the top of the results provides guidance on how best to sort the library depending on the type of counseling license held. Information on our state license requirement pages provides a brief summary of the requirements for each state and additional information on how to use the Continued Counseling library to meet your continuing education needs.
What is the difference between CE credits and CEUs?
Course duration or credit is measured differently by different entities. The CEU (continuing education unit) is the internationally recognized standard for continuing education and training, developed and overseen by the International Association of Continuing Education and Training (IACET). One (1.0) CEU is defined as 10 hours of participation in coursework. Therefore, a single hour of participation in a course is equal to 0.1 CEUs. Continued is accredited by IACET and is authorized to issue the IACET CEU.
CE credits refers to the contact hours offered by NBCC and NAADAC. A CE credit, or 1.0 CE, is defined as 60 minutes of instruction.
I am a behavioral health professional, but I am not a professional counselor, marriage and family counselor, or addiction counselor. Can I take courses on Continued Counseling?
Continued Counseling courses are developed for behavioral health professionals to support CE requirements for license renewal. Considering that there is overlap in scope of practice and target client population within the behavioral health professions, some of our courses may be applicable to other professionals. It’s up to you as the licensee to select courses pertinent to your scope of practice and to determine the board rules for your particular license and state. Continued Counseling is an NBCC Approved Continuing Education Provider™, ACEP No. 7484 and a NAADAC Approved Education Provider #283836.
