To ensure uninterrupted service and continued professional development, your subscription will automatically be renewed at the end of your subscription using the payment method you have on file. Note: Continued subscriptions and subscribers were previously known as memberships and members, respectively.
How do I complete a course?
After registering for a course, you must view 100% of the course content to earn credit. After participating in a live, video, audio, podcast, or text-based course, you will be required to obtain a passing score of 70% on a multiple-choice exam. You will be given immediate feedback regarding the results of your exam, and you’ll get the opportunity to repeat the exam once if necessary.
To earn credit for a live webinar, you must be logged into the entire event and complete the exam within seven days; for a video, audio, podcast, or text-based course, you must view 100% of course content and complete the exam within 30 days of the course registration date. If you do not complete the exam within that time, you must re-register for the course. You can access your CE exams by clicking on Dashboard or Pending Courses on the navigation sidebar. After passing the exam, you will be required to complete a course evaluation to receive a certificate of completion for the course. Please note that you will not be allowed to complete more than 24 hours of coursework on any calendar day.
Who keeps track of how many CE/CEUs have been earned?
Continued maintains a record of your completed coursework. After you log in, navigate to your Dashboard and select Transcripts. In the upper right corner of the page, you will see an option to print or save your certificates or transcripts. To view courses completed prior to the current year, you will need to use the Start Date and End Date filters located at the top left corner of the Transcript page and select Search. You can access this page at any time to view courses that you have completed.
Understanding hours completed info on the My Transcripts page
The hours completed info at the top of the My Transcripts page includes data for four relevant associations. These calculations apply to your completed courses, filtered by the date range you set at the top of the page.
-
ASWB ACE: This number represents the sum of the credits offered under our ASWB ACE Provider approval for the courses you’ve completed. This approval is accepted by all U.S. states except New York.
- If you’re licensed in a state that accepts ASWB ACE providers (see the ACE provider map), refer to this credit amount when calculating your total continuing education credits. Please refer to your specific state requirements for further info on continuing education requirements.
-
NY Contact Hours: This number represents the sum of the credits offered under our provider approval for the New York Social Work licensing board for the courses you’ve completed. This approval is accepted by the New York State Education Department for the profession of Social Work.
- If you hold an LMSW or an LCSW in New York, refer to this credit amount when calculating your total continuing education credits.
-
Please note:
- New York does require a portion of your hours to be taken via live webinars.
- The calculator on the My Transcripts page does not account for live versus self-paced hours.
- New York contact hours will generally be offered at a lower credit amount than what is offered by ASWB ACE due to differing credit calculations from those of New York.
- Please refer to our New York state requirements for further info on what is required by the state.
-
NASW: Select courses on Continued Social Work are approved by NASW. The number shown for NASW represents the sum of the credits approved by NASW for the courses you’ve completed for the date range selected at the top of the page. These hours will also be included in (and not separate from) the ASWB ACE credit section.
- If you’re licensed in a state that accepts NASW-approved courses (see the NASW board endorsement list), you can count these hours toward your continuing education. Refer to your specific state requirements for further info on continuing education requirements.
- Please note that the number of hours approved by NASW will be small as we only seek approval for select courses each year from NASW.
Course Approvals
Continued Social Work courses may be offered for credits from any of several approving organizations and regulatory entities to meet the continuing education needs of social workers licensed in all U.S. states and jurisdictions. Not all courses will be offered for the same credits, and it is incumbent on the licensee to understand the continuing education regulations for their license.
However, to facilitate your course search, the State drop-down menu sorts the course library by courses most likely to meet continuing education needs for social workers licensed in the selected state. Info on our State Pages can provide a brief summary of the requirements for each state and additional guidance on how to use the Continued Social Work library to meet your continuing education needs.
This webpage reviews some of the primary types of credits that may be offered for Continued Social Work courses.
What is the difference between “ASWB ACE” and “NJ (ASWB ACE )”
The ASWB ACE program offers two types of approval for continuing education providers: ACE provider-level approval and individual course/conference approval. The ACE provider-level approval allows approved organizations such as Continued Social Work to offer ACE credit for courses that meet ACE standards in the formats for which they are approved.
Provider Approval: Continued Social Work is an ASWB ACE Provider (provider #1742), and most Continued Social Work courses are offered for ASWB ACE CE credits. This approval is denoted by “ASWB ACE” where course credits are listed for individual courses (e.g., the course information page).
Most U.S. jurisdictions that regulate social workers accept courses offered by ASWB ACE Providers, though state and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. Please refer to your state licensing board for current requirements.
Individual Course Approval: The New Jersey State Board of Social Work Examiners previously required individual course approval (prior to April 2024) for continuing education courses. Select courses on Continued Social Work were approved through this process and are denoted by “NJ (ASWB ACE)" wherever course credits are listed for individual courses. Please note that this approval is no longer required by NJ as the state now accepts courses by ASWB ACE approved providers.
National Association of Social Workers (NASW)
Select Continued Social Work courses are individually approved by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). These courses are offered for social workers in all states except New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, and West Virginia, although we recommend that you check with your regulatory entity if you have questions about acceptable courses.
Courses offered for NASW credit may or may not also be offered through Continued Social Work’s ASWB ACE Provider approval. Courses offered through NASW are always relevant to the social work profession, and the presenters are qualified and trained in the course topic. See the section below for info about NASW approval and CE Broker.
What is the difference between CE and CEUs?
Course duration or credit is measured differently by different entities. The “CEU” is the internationally recognized standard for continuing education and training, developed and overseen by the International Association of Continuing Education and Training (IACET). One (1.0) CEU is defined as 10 hours of participation in coursework. Therefore, a single hour of participation in a course is equal to 0.1 CEUs. Continued is accredited by IACET and is authorized to issue the IACET CEU. “CE” is the term used by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) to calculate credit for courses offered by approved providers. A CE credit, or 1.0 CE, is defined by ACE as 60 minutes of instruction.
I am a mental health professional, but I am not a social worker. Can I take courses on Continued Social Work?
Continued Social Work courses are developed for social workers. Considering that there is overlap in scope of practice and target client population between social workers and other mental health professionals, some of our courses may be applicable to other professionals. It is up to the licensee to select courses pertinent to their scope of practice and to determine the board rules for their particular license and state. Continued Social Work is an ASWB Approved Continuing Education (ACE)#1742.
Important info about reporting to CE Broker
Continued Social Work will report your completed coursework to CE Broker if you are a social worker licensed in Florida, Michigan, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, or West Virginia and if you select “yes” for reporting when you complete the exam. You may change your reporting preference until the course has been reported.
To ensure that your CE credits are reported properly to CE Broker, you must verify that your Continued professional profile (in your Account Settings) is up to date and follows these specific formatting instructions:
- Florida: Include both the alpha and numeric portions of your license (e.g., SW12345)
- Michigan: Include only the numeric portion of your license (e.g., 1234567891)
- New Hampshire: Include only the numeric portion of your license (e.g., 12345)
- North Dakota: Include only the numeric portion of your license (e.g., 12345)
- Ohio: Include the alpha portion, followed by a period, followed by the numeric portion of your license (e.g., S.1234567)
- South Carolina: Include only the numeric portion of your license (e.g., 1234)
- Tennessee: Include only the numeric portion of your license (e.g., 1234)
- West Virginia: Include both the alpha and numeric portions of your license (e.g., AP12345678)
If your profile is not current, your coursework may not be accurately reported to CE Broker. Remember that this reporting feature applies only if you are a member of CE Broker and would like CE Broker to maintain a record of your CEUs. Please allow 15 days following the course completion date before contacting Continued Social Work regarding course reporting.
Please note that if you did not request Continued Social Work to report a course you completed more than 45 days ago, you must self-report your coursework to CE Broker. For more info about self-reporting, please visit the CE Broker website. The Continued Social Work provider number for CE Broker is 50-29950. Your Continued Social Work course certificates of completion may be submitted as documentation.
In some cases, when a course is offered through NASW, it may not be eligible for CE Broker reporting through Continued Social Work and should not appear when you search the course library by the states that use CE Broker (Florida, Michigan, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia). However, you can manually report your continuing education through your CE Broker account.
